FOODSTOCK
CHARITIES OFFERS THIRD FREE DINNER
Sunday Dinners for Those in Need
Danville,
IL, March 9, 2009 - Foodstock Charities will host its third free
dinner at the Tilton Lions Club house, on Sunday, March 22, 2009.
The dinners are open to all for as long as the food lasts. The
local charity, which is a project of the Life with Spirit Foundation,
was founded in the beginning of 2008. It's mission is to serve
the community by offering food - and hope - to those with the
greatest need.
"Now
more than ever, there are members of our community who need support,"
said Lane Baldwin, founder and Executive Director of Foodstock
Charities. "This is one more way that we can help, and encourage
others to get involved."
This month,
seniors and handicapped who cannot attend in person may call to
schedule home delivery. "We are gathering an all-volunteer
delivery crew to deliver meals," said Glenda Ford-Baldwin,
Volunteer Coordinator for the project. "We schedule deliveries
on a first-come, first-served basis, so we encourage everyone
who would like a meal to call us as soon as possible."
Primary funding
for the project is provided by Lane and Glenda. "Lane took
another substantial pay cut at the end of last month," said
Bob Stevens, Director of Operations, "and again his response
was to invest even more into his charity work."
In addition,
this month's dinner is supported in part by a large anonymous
donation. "We are thrilled," Baldwin said of the donation,
" It's going to help us feed many more people this month."
Already the
project has gathered sponsors, including County Market, Tilton
Lion's Club, Applewood Foods, and the Spears Center for Servant-Leadership
(Indianapolis, IN). The project will soon invite churches and
other local organizations to participate.
The Tilton
Lions Club has donated the use of their building to the project,
and will assist with meal delivery. The club is also reaching
out to other area Lions Clubs to invite their participation. "We're
very pleased to be working with the Lions Club," said Stevens.
"Their mission statement is very similar to our own and we're
proud that they want to work with us."
Foodstock
Charities began as a way for Baldwin's band Deeper Blues (which
Stevens manages) to commemorate the release of its first CD, Dig
the Hole. This year, Foodstock is going national, with concerts
scheduled in several cities across the US. In addition, Baldwin
and Stevens plan to launch a project to bring musical entertainment
to hospitals, VA centers and retirement homes. They are also seeking
501(c)3 non-profit status for The Life with Spirit Foundation,
and are pursuing sponsorship discussions with several large corporations.
"All
faiths teach that the key to fulfillment is our service to others,"
Baldwin said. "This is our service to our community, our
way of helping to make things better. We can't think of anything
more basic, more necessary, than providing food for those in need."
The Foodstock
Sunday Dinner will be served from noon till 3 p.m., with doors
opening at 11:00. The Tilton Lions Club is located at the corner
of Atwood and 14th streets in Tilton, adjacent to the East side
of the 14th Street overpass construction. Follow the signs from
the 14th St. ramp (off Georgetown Rd.). For more information on
