Danville
High School Food Drive
This
was our first event working with schools in the Danville
area. Sponsored by the Library Club and faculty sponsor,
librarian Kurt Willer, this drive was a competition
between classes to see which class could bring in the
most donations.
The
Freshman class won the event, and each participant received
a certificate of appreciation and a coupon for a free
donut from Royal Donut.

The
Foodstock Fall Festival, October 11, 2008
The
inaugural concert was so successful that it catapulted
the Foodstock concept well beyond anyone's dreams. We
believed that it would take several years to build the
drive to the level that we could secure a date on the
Lincoln Park schedule of events. However, because the
first concert was so successful, food pantry director
Chuck Brooks, working with Danville Township, arranged
a spot in the early fall. The second event was as successful
as the first, and set the stage for an annual fall event.
Performers
included Deeper Blues, Doc Ashton & the Root Canals,
Urban Squirrel and Fifth World (both from Chicago),
and the Goodfellas. In addition, the DHS Vikings Drumline
opened the show with a rousing display, while the Dirt
Rose Band put in a last-minute save when another band
had to back out at the last minute. Larry Weatherford
again served as MC for the event.

Foodstock
'08 - the Inaugural Concert, March 1, 2008

This
event was the birth of Foodstock Charities, and the Danville
chapter. The first concert was conceived to celebrate
the release of Dig the Hole, the first CD from
Deeper Blues. The band, which is led by Foodstock founder
and executive director Lane Baldwin, wanted to something
for the coummunity that not only represented Lane's belief
in service to others, but also the tradition of the Blues.
The more they thought about it, the more everyone involved
felt that supporting the Danville Area Food Pantry and
the many families the serve was the best way to accomplish
their goal.
Performers
included The New Kingdom Christian Church Choir, Phaze
II, Doc Ashton & the Root Canals. Of course, Deeper
Blues headlined the show with a blistering set of original
Blues. Local radio celebrity Larry Weatherford served
as MC. At the end of the day, the concert brought in more
than $5,000 in cash and food! In fact, the event was so
successful that it enabled the Foodstock organization
to rapidly mushroom in size and scope.
