Danville
Foodstock is proud to announce the DHS Interclass Food Drive
Competition. Sponsored by the DHS Library Club, the competition
will raise food and money for the Danville Area Food Pantry.
For the week of Monday, April 27, through Friday May 1, each
class - Freshman through Senior - will bring in donations. Each
child in the class that raises the most will receive a certificate
personalized with their name. The Library Club will also raffle
numerous prizes for members of the winning class.
Officers
of the Danville Area Food Pantry will audit the donations to
ensure accuracy. The DHS Library Club will work with faculty
sponsor Kurt Willer to oversee collection of the donations.
"We're
very pleased to work with our local students," said Foodstock
founder Lane Baldwin. "We hope to encourage our youth to
be active volunteers in their community, so that they know first-hand
the sense of fulfillment derived from serving others."
Update
from Lane, April 15, 2009:
I
visited the DHS Library yesterday in preparation for the drive.
Librarian and faculty sponsor of the Library Club, Kurt Willer,
tells me that the club is extremely excited, and is already
spreading the word through the student body. The flyers are
up all over the school, and club members have been talking things
up in Home Room period every day.
HUGE
kudos to Kurt and his students! Here they are, preparing for
finals, and SATs and who knows what else, and they're still
150% committed to a successful drive.
Update
from Lane, April 23, 2009
Today
I picked up the collection barrels from the Danville Area Food
Pantry, and delivered them to Danville High School. Check out
the video below for a short behind the scenes report.
Update,
April 24, 2009 - Royal Donut Donates ONE HUNDRED Coupons
We
just picked up one hundred coupons for FREE DONUTS from Royal
Donut! Many thanks to owner Floyd Reed for his outsanding support
of the drive! These coupons will be added to the prize raffle
held for the winning class.
Royal
Donut has been a corporate sponsor of our events since the beginning,
and we very much appreciate their support. We also happen to
just LOVE their donuts! Again, thank you, Floyd. Your support
of our efforts - and of our students - will not be forgotten!
Update,
May 4, 2009 - A Successful Drive
We
picked up the collection barrels Friday, and quickly determined
that the Freshman class won the drive. Congratulations to all
who participated in our first project with Danville area schools.
Later this week, we'll deliver certificates and free donut coupons
(courtesy of Royal Donut) to the winning class.
